Someone tells a dev creating a game in godot that using a game engines is woke 2. Godot twitter account posts tweet "Apparently game engines are woke now? Well then, we won't complain Show us your #Wokot games below 3. Conservative influencers and activists start reposting this, attacking the godot foundation and community manager. A lot of trolls starts spewing hate under godot posts 4. In response to raid there's panic mode and a lot of bans, some to people who dont troll 5. In following hours bans are disputed and cleared 6. Conservative influencers and activists continue the hate campaign Common lies: Lie: people are getting banned from GitHub for opinions and can't access the code anymore Truth: people are getting banned from posting new issues in GitHub. They got banned after spamming the issue board with offtop disrupting dev work. They still can read and access the code and newest godot versions. 5 people were banned from spamming issues as stated by the godot team member # about-twitter > Lie: but how the engine is open source if it bans people from discussions? Truth: Because it's on open source license. The license is not granting any discussion rights on game engine socials. Please read the license if you want to come up with "got you" about it. Lie: go woke go broke Truth: Godot lost around 160 euro from backers. At the same time it gained more than 2000 euro from new backers. The total loss in the number is a result of one year long corporate sponsorship of 5000 euro expiring. Lie: why don't you focus on developing the engine not doing politics Truth: A joke about some ridiculous interaction is politics? Socials of open source game engine are allowed to joke. People need to stop being offended at jokes like this. Now ask yourself some questions: ⚫ why are people offended at this joke? ⚫ in what way it would a political joke that is offensive? ⚫ why people who are not devs should dictate what words are allowed in jokes made by account of open source engine? Some food for thought: Woke means being aware of important societal issues and problems. It's a dictionary definition https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/woke-meaning-origin Conservative influencers and activists started effort to make this word means something bad around BLM because they didn't want black people to have nice, short word for being aware of injustice and oppression. Why they don't want people to have a word for that? In whose interest it is to make people not aware of issues and oppression? Should they be able to dictate new definitions for words and decide they are too offensive to use even in jokes? If you want to allow those activists dictate forbidden words what else should they dictate? Should those non-technical people be able to force technical decisions too?
