The parody series began in mid-March 2026 and quickly went viral, garnering a significant fandom of over 3.2 million followers in roughly a week, and the videos regularly gaining tens of millions of views each. On March 14th, 2026, TikToker^[1] @ai.cinema021 posted the first three episodes of Fruit Love Island, an entirely AI-generated version of Love Island with anthropomorphic fruit characters. The episodes gained 27 million, 12 million and 14 million views, respectively, in about a week.

The show follows the format of Love Island, a reality dating show produced by ITV Entertainment in which a group of men and women are put on an island villa and must compete for each other's love, with contestants getting voted out and new contestants arriving throughout the series. Fruit Love Island similarly includes characters, like Strawberina, Bananito, Mangella, Watermelina, Grapenzo and more.

TikToker @ai.cinema021 continued to post episodes of AI Love Island throughout March 2026. The account garnered over 3.1 million followers by March 23rd, 2026, just nine days after launching. As the show's fandom grew, viewers began posting about AI Fruit Island on social media.

For example, on March 19th, 2026, X^[2][3] users @cartierbry and @cocoxel made posts about musical artist Zara Larsson reposting and interacting with AI Fruit Island videos, criticizing her for supporting a generative AI series, garnering over 35,000 likes in four days.

Larsson responded to the claims in a video where she defends herself, claiming that she just found the videos funny and assuring people that she does not use AI for her art.^[4]

On March 21st, X^[5] user @lalisattwo posted screenshots of two of the contestants of the show, writing, "I NEED them to win." The next day, X^[6] user @Maruyamafr quoted the post, writing, "Oh so you guys are actually serious about enjoying this," gaining over 72,000 likes in a day.

On March 22nd, 2026, TikToker^[7] @tweaktitans posted a comedy video where he portrays the type of person who enjoys watching AI Fruit Love Island, garnering over 747,000 views in a day.

That same day, TikToker^[8] @zqtyler posted an edit of the contestant Orangello coming out as gay during the show, garnering over 212,000 views in a day.

On March 23rd, 2026, X^[9] user and musical artist bbno$ (@bbnomula) quoted a post about the overwhelming popularity of the series, writing, "bruh who even watches this slop," gaining over 7,000 likes in under a day.

Also on March 23rd, YouTuber Critikal (penguinz0) uploaded a video discussing the AI video series, titled "It's Pathetic and Out of Control." The video received nearly 46,000 views, 5,200 likes and 1,100 comments in 15 minutes.
