About

BatChest is a Twitch emote featuring the face of former Twitch admin Curtis Scott wearing light-up goggles making a surprised face, which has been compared to a soyface. The emoji is used to convey mock surprise and excitement when something unexpected occurs during a Twitch stream.

Origin

It is unclear when Batchest was first added as a Twitch emote, but it began becoming popular within the Forsen community around the spring and summer of 2021. It was seeing roughly 150,000 uses per day on Twitch as of May 2021,[2] and on June 18th, Redditor KioLima1 asked /r/Forsen[3] about the meaning of the emote.

Spread

The emote continued seeing roughly 150k-200k uses per day through June and July of 2021. On August 16th, YouTuber FeelsOkayMan uploaded a clip from a Forsen stream in which chat members utilized an automated "BatChest" voice (shown below).

On August 23rd, 2021, the popularity of the emote skyrocketed on the platform and began seeing millions of uses, peaking at 6.1 million uses on August 24th. On August 23rd, Urban Dictionary[4] user Sumaka_ added a definition for the phrase, explaining how it was a way of showing mock excitement about nerdy things like Star Wars or Marvel (shown below).

Chills

Chills is a Twitch emote using the face of former Twitch admin Curtis Scott, who is already known for being the face of the prominent emote Batchest. The emote depicts Scott with a beard, RGB light-up glasses and an excited expression. On the site, the emote is typically used as an alternative to Batchest, particularly when something is said to give someone "chills" instead of having them Pog.
