About
Chills is a Twitch emote using the face of former Twitch admin Curtis Scott, who is already known for being the face of the prominent emote Batchest. The emote depicts Scott with a beard, RGB light-up glasses and an excited expression. On the site, the emote is typically used as an alternative to Batchest, particularly when something is said to give someone "chills" instead of having them Pog.
Origin
Similar to Batchest, the meme began to get popular shortly after the summer of 2021, with it being added to the FrankerFacez site on October 25th, 2021, by user Brin_[1] (shown below).
As of June 2023, the emote has been spotted over 1.5 billion times since its release,[3] eclipsing many other popular emotes such as YEP and KEKW.
Spread
Since being uploaded in late 2021, the Chills Twitch emote has become prevalent on the streaming platform, and as of June 2023, Chills is the fifth top-used emote among FrankerFacez emotes.[3]
On August 16th, 2022, Redditor u/Androneda[4] asked a question in the Twitch subreddit /r/twitch asking why the word "Chills" and the emote are being used after other emotes such as Batchest and Gigachad, with the answer being that chills is used as an ironic way of saying that something is giving you the sensation of chills from how epic it is.
The meaning behind Chills is also touched on in a video by YouTuber Syrmaa,[2] who on February 22nd, 2022, uploaded a video about the history of Batchest and Curtis Scott, earning over 50,000 views in one year (shown below).
