Beekeeping Age or Bee Keeping Age is a slang term derived from a scene in Rick and Morty where Summer's friend Tricia Lange watches Jerry tending to his bees, first telling Summer she finds it dorky, then becoming intrigued by his beekeeping, saying, "How old is your dad? He's obviously beekeeping age," before admitting she wants to sleep with Jerry. The scene aired in May 2020 and became the subject of memes over the following years, including as a lip dub sound on TikTok in 2022 and 2023. As a slang term, "beekeeping age" is often used to describe an attractive middle-aged or older man, potentially a dad, with a grizzled look.

Origin

On May 10th, 2020, Rick and Morty season four, episode seven, titled "Promortyus," aired. At the end of the episode, Summer and her friend Tricia Lange watch Summer's dad, Jerry, tend to his bees. She comments as she watches, first making fun of Jerry for his beekeeping hobby, but quickly becoming intrigued by it and eventually admitting that she wants to have sex with Jerry. On May 12th, the Adult Swim YouTube^[1] channel uploaded the scene, garnering over 8 million views in five years.

The scene was reposted to TikTok^[2][3] on May 31st, 2022, by @comedy_tv08 and on June 8th by @landingkolley, garnering over 3.8 million views and 108,000 views respectively in three years. On July 4th, TikToker^[4] @meat.bucket posted a lip dub video set to the audio of @landingkolley's upload, garnering over 2.4 million views in three years.

The beekeeping age audio continued to go viral on TikTok throughout 2022, inspiring other versions of the audio and continuing to be used into 2025.

On July 13th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @skillsawww posted a lip dub to the audio, garnering over 1.6 million views in three years. Over the next three years, the original sound for @landingkolley's video was used over 15,000 times, mostly for similar lip dubs.

In 2023, TikTokers continued to lip dub to the audio. On February 13th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @notburnttoasthehe posted a lip dub video set to the dialogue, garnering over 28 million views in two years. On September 22nd, a now-deleted Redditor posted a meme to the /r/formuladank^[7] subreddit referencing the scene, garnering over 1,600 upvotes in two years.

On July 22nd, 2024, Redditor u/isnatchkids made a post to the /r/RickandMorty^[8] subreddit sharing an image of the scene along with the dialogue as a copypasta, garnering over 6,500 upvotes in a year.

On November 21st, X^[9] user @pascaloriann posted an image of Pedro Pascal in a beekeeper's outfit alongside an image of Tricia, suggesting Pedro is beekeeping age, garnering over 188,000 likes in seven months. It was reposted to the /r/Rickand Morty^[10] subreddit that day, garnering over 1,100 upvotes.

On March 27th, 2025, TikToker^[11] @hettiespaghetti posted a lip dub to the sound in which she acts out Summer's part instead of Tricia's, garnering over 3.9 million views in three months.
