About

Diglett Gravestone is an exploitable "Who's That Pokémon?" comic in which various characters guess that a silhouette is the Pokemon Diglett, before it is revealed to be a gravestone for one of their dead loved ones.

Origin

On October 15th, 2016, DeviantArtist[6] FemFantasy posted a comic of 60's Spider-Man saying "fuck you" after incorrectly guessing that his deceased Uncle Ben's gravestone was the Pokemon Diglett (shown below).

On January 12th, 2017, FunnyJunk[1] user ronrod reposted the image, garnering more than 32,000 views and 1,400 upvotes in three months. On January 27th, 2017, Redditor ElChapoIsMyDad submitted a similar comic in which Peter Parker (played by Toby Maguire) in the 2002 film Spider-Man discovers the hidden Pokemon is actually Uncle Ben's grave (shown below, left). Within two months, the post received upwards of 4,900 votes (97% upvoted) and 20 comments on /r/me_irl.[3] On February 8th, the @superheroalliance[5] Instagram page posted a Batman-themed version of the comic, gathering over 8,000 likes within two months (shown below, right).

On April 24th, Redditor Joeobo submitted a version of the comic in which the Star Wars character Anakin Skywalker discovers the grave of his dead wife Padmé Amidala to /r/PrequelMemes,[4] where it received more than 52,200 votes (85% upvoted) and 250 comments within 48 hours (shown below, left). The following day, Redditor bananasareyummy posted a version in which Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty is shown the gravestone of the character Birdperson (shown below, right). Within 24 hours, the post gained upwards of 18,100 votes (79% upvoted) and 120 comments on /r/MemeEconomy.[2]
