About

Dirk Dinkum "Go Away" refers to a song performed by The Garfield Show villain Dirk Dinkum which became a source of memes and ironic appreciation on social media in early May of 2023. The song is performed by Dinkum mostly talking about enjoying being a villain in a thick Australian accent.

Origin

"Go Away" appears in The Garfield Show episode "Lion Queen: Welcome to Africa," which aired on October 6th, 2015 (shown below).[1]

The scene was largely forgotten until May 3rd, 2023, when Twitter user @n64cartridges posted it, calling it "the most random ass villain song ive ever heard." The tweet gained 2,000 retweets and 16,000 likes in one week (shown below).

Spread

The tweet began inspiring memes about the song roughly a week after it was posted. On May 8th, 2023 Twitter user @DPlexHD[2] fit lyrics from Dinkum's song into the Rick and Morty High IQ copypasta, gaining over 30 retweets and 100 likes in two days (shown below, top). On May 9th, Twitter user @DuneDudeNG posted a remix blending the song and the dance from "Party Rock Anthem," gaining over 230 retweets and 920 likes in one day (shown below, bottom).

Ramona! @DPlexHD To be fair, you need to have a very high IQ to understand the complexity of Dirk Dinkum. No body likes to be hated by the population, but still he doesn't mind when they say "go away". The folks around him perceive him to be an abomination, but he doesn't care.

On YouTube, users began remixing it in various popular YouTube Poop styles. On May 5th, user borago officinalis posted a Gets Faster remix, gaining over 1,400 views in five days (shown below, left). The same day, user trapezoidalt posted a Slowed + Reverb remix, gaining over 1,000 views in the same time (shown below, right).
