Overview

Raccoon Dumpster Fire Video refers to a viral gore video of a woman named Alicia Kincheloe setting a wild raccoon on fire after it was found trapped inside a dumpster in Sarasota, Florida. The video was originally shared on Snapchat in August 2022 but became notorious online in October 2023 after Alicia Kincheloe was sentenced to a work program after her “raccoon dumpster” video alerted law enforcement. The shock media spread online in late 2023 and early 2024, inspiring reactions and outrage on sites like Twitter / X, TikTok and Reddit, with some users seeking out justice for the wild animal in an attempt to dox the woman.

Background

According to the police investigation,[1] on August 11th, 2022, Alicia Kincheloe recorded a video on Snapchat of a live raccoon in a dumpster in Sarasota, Florida. In the video, she calls the animal mean despite detectives saying that the raccoon did not exhibit aggressive behavior. Investigators later told local media that Alicia's father, Roddy Kincheloe, then stabbed the raccoon with a pitchfork before the two returned to the dumpster after lunch, discovering that the animal was still alive. Roddy reportedly told Alicia to then get a can of gasoline from his truck, which Alicia later admitted to pouring on the animal before setting it on fire.[1]

On September 2nd, 2022, the YouTube[2] news channel @fox13tampa shared the full story (shown below), stating that the "father and daughter both face aggravated animal cruelty charges" for burning the wild animal alive. The video amassed over 56,000 views and 730 likes in almost two years.

On October 5th, 2023, Alicia Kincheloe was found guilty of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and tampering with evidence for reportedly trying to dispose of the raccoon's body. Roddy Kincheloe was also convicted of a single count of aggravated animal cruelty charges. According to a report,[3] the court ordered Kincheloe to serve 45 days on the offender work program and she was also "ordered to serve two years under community control and three years of probation."

On December 19th, 2023, the YouTube[4] channel for WFLA News Channel 8 shared a video of Alicia's sentence (shown below), which amassed over 389,000 views and 9,900 likes in a month.

Online Reactions

The video and content related to the story gained virality about a year after the incident happened when Alicia Kincheloe's trial started in early October 2023, particularly after the news of her conviction and her sentencing not including jail time spread in late 2023 and early 2024. For instance, on January 8th, 2024, Redditor meowingtodeath made a post to the /r/infuriatingasfuck[7] subreddit titled "Woman escapes jail time after stabbing and burning a raccoon to death" in which they expressed anger at the sentencing decision, receiving 15 upvotes in 48 hours.

On January 9th, 2024, TikTok user @billyy_court12 uploaded a series of videos of Kincheloe's trial, which have since been deleted from the platform but resurfaced the case on social media and inspired users to comment on her cruel actions. For instance, on January 9th, 2024, TikTok[5] user @fairygoodintentions shared her thoughts on the crime (shown below, left), amassing roughly 39,000 plays and 343 likes in a day.

On the same day, TikTok[6] user @jesstheprequeldoesmiami posted a video talking about the "raccoon dumpster fire" incident (shown below, right), which garnered over 96,000 plays and 3,000 likes in a day.
