Guys I Have Bad News refers to a series of image macros using an image of the Despicable Me 2 poster to share ironically bad news. The image was first used along with the caption in July 2021 and spread over the course of the year.

Origin

On July 1st, 2020, Instagram^[1] user daddy_chungles posted a meme using the Despicable Me 2 poster, showing Gru with his back turned looking over a crowd of Minions, captioned, "Guys I have bad news / 9+10 is not 21," referencing the 9+10=21 meme, gaining over 14,600 likes in roughly two years (shown below).

Spread

On November 4th, 2021, Facebook^[2] page I'm something of a meme page myself posted a version of the meme captioned "Guys I have bad news wrestling is not real," gaining over 1,600 shares and 1,500 reactions in four months (shown below).

On February 19th, 2022, Facebook^[3] page Suffering is my hobby posted a version of the meme sharing the bad news that they woke up, gaining over 3,500 shares and 5,000 reactions in a month (shown below).
