Holy Shit, This Some Hot Garbage, But I Can't Stop Listening refers to a DJ Smokey and Nuke Radio producer tag present in the RXK Nephew and RX Papi song "Who Am I" which was released on Soundcloud in late 2022 and became a TikTok sound and meme in early 2023, similarly to Legalize Nuclear Bombs, Shadow Money Wizard Gang and Legalize Anabolic Steroids. The "hot garbage" tag was also associated with rapper Joeyy whose songs started the precursor memes. The TikTok sound became known for the Bee Raising Eyebrows meme and CapCut template in March 2023.

Origin

On December 8th, 2022, producer DJ Smokey posted to YouTube^[1] the audio for the song "Who Am I" featuring rappers RXK Nephew and RX Papi and fellow producers Soudiere and Max2k10. Over the course of three months, the video received roughly 80,400 views and 4,900 likes (shown below). At the beginning of the song, a producer tag calls out, "Holy shit, this some hot garbage, but I can't stop listening to it." Also, on the same day, the song was uploaded to Soundcloud^[2] by Soudiere where it received roughly 120,000 listens and 5,400 likes in three months.

On January 4th, 2023, TikToker^[9] @barcelona.szn posted the first known video to use the song. It showed football edit comparing players William Saliba and Ronald Araujo. Over the course of two months, it received roughly 5,900 plays and over 440 likes (shown below).

Spread

Despite the aforementioned usage, predominant, memetic usage of the song didn't occur until late January. On January 31st, 2023, TikToker^[3] @not._nic posted a clip from the Joeyy music video for "Gout" (which features the Shadow Money Wizard Gang tag) but instead included the audio of "Who Am I." TikToker^[3] @not._nic wrote in text overlay, "Hardest producer tag ever," and over the course of two months, it received roughly 1 million plays and 157,000 likes (shown below).

After TikToker^[3] @not._nic's video, others started using the TikTok^[4] sound it created. For instance, the first to do so was TikToker^[5] @realperkerr on February 10th, 2023, who posted a photo slideshow with the sound that received roughly 266,700 plays and 35,200 likes in one month.

On February 13th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @c_marquez_ posted a video that used the TikTok^[4] sound in which he lip-dubbed the words and showed the Wise Mystical Tree on his laptop screen. The video received roughly 351,400 plays and 58,900 likes in one month (shown below, left). Also on February 13th, TikToker^[7] @rustyraiden posted a Joeyy, Yeat and Valorant video that used the start of "Who Am I" and created its own TikTok^[8] sound. In one month, the TikTok gained roughly 30,600 plays and 1,200 likes (shown below, right).

Bee Raising Eyebrows Meme

TikTokers started using the "hot garbage" tag for memes showing a bee raising its eyebrows in March 2023. Videos of this nature first surfaced on March 10th, 2023, within car-centric communities on the app. The most viral video among them was uploaded by TikToker^[10] @250isaiah and gained roughly 674,900 plays and 105,100 likes in six days (shown below).
