About

How Dubstep Was Discovered is a remix video series based on a clip of a man demonstrating how brass instruments were discovered. In the videos, a segment in which he blows through a mouthpiece attached to a tube is dubbed with music from a variety of modern electronic genres.

Origin

On November 23rd, 2010, YouTuber hardlynewsblog uploaded a video titled "Trumpet From a Tube," in which a man shows how attaching a mouthpiece to a length of tubing allows for a wider range of notes (shown below). Within six years, the video gathered upwards of 490,000 views and 600 comments.





Spread

On June 10th, 2016, EDM artist Extra Terra posted a remix of the video titled "How Dubstep was Discovered," in which dubstep electronic music noises are emitted from the mouthpiece attached to a tube, on Facebook. [2] The post received more than 323,000 reactions, 86,000 comments and 35 million views in three years (Shown below).

That day, YouTuber EKM CO shared the video. Within four months, the video gathered upwards of 2.04 million views and 2,900 comments.[3]



On June 3rd, YouTuber Misclick uploaded a similar remix in which psychedelic trance music is dubbed over the original audio (shown below, left). On June 12th, 2016, YouTuber Cotopaxi posted a trap music remix of the video (shown below, right).
