Human-Faced Dog refers to an image of a 1-year old Shih-poo which went viral after internet commenters noticed remarkably human-like features in the dogs face.

Origin

The dog is named Yogi and belongs to Facebook user Chantal Desjardins.^[1] After Desjardins posted a photo of the dog to her Facebook, Reddit user emceegrath^[2] reposted the image to Reddit's /r/pics on February 26th, 2018. There, it gained over 19,000 upvotes.

Spread

Reddit users pointed to the dog's eyes and mouth as evidence of its human-like qualities. The dog began going viral on other sites several days later when Buzzfeed reporter Ellie Hall^[3] began tweeting about it on March 12th, gaining 2,400 retweets and over 9,000 likes (shown below).

In response to Hall's tweet, other Twitter users began comparing the dog to celebrities. Ryan Broderick, another Buzzfeed employee, compared the dog to Jake Gyllenhall in Brokeback Mountain (shown below, left). Twitter user @Sianwelby compared the dog to Zach Galifianakis (shown below, right).

After tweeting about the dog, Hall wrote about the dog for Buzzfeed.^[1] The same day, multiple media outlets picked up the story, including The Daily Mail,^[4] Digg,^[5] and Cosmo.^[6]
