A screenshot of the comments went viral on social media in February 2025, inspiring memes referencing the post and further referring to Patrick as Subaru while claiming he's a bad friend to SpongeBob. Kmh1481 purportedly goes by u/grantpantwhycant, aka Kylie Kozub. As the meme went viral, TikTokers began referring to SpongeBob as Pagani as an extension of the meme.

On March 5th, 2021, SpongeBob Fandom^[1] members Kmh1481 and Idoodle247 exchanged comments on the page for the episode "Gone." Kmh1481 wrote, "I hate that even Subaru took part in no Spongebob day what kind of best friend is he." Idoodle247 replied, "Who's Subaru?" and Kmh1481 responded, "I call Patrick Subaru."

On February 17th, 2025, X^[2] user @punishedvia posted a screenshot of the thread that gained over 101,000 likes and 6,500 reposts in two weeks.

Kmh1481 is purportedly the account of Redditor u/grantpantwhycant, who, in August 2024, made a post to the subreddit /r/SpongeBob^[8] in which she also claims that her nickname for Patrick is Subaru. She also owns the TikTok account @kmh1481.

On February 17th, 2025, it was reposted to iFunny^[3] and the subreddit /r/comedyheaven,^[4] garnering over 5,300 smiles on the former and 20,000 upvotes on the latter in two weeks.

On March 3rd, TikToker^[5] @walt.jr.official posted the meme with a Lil Yachty Laptop meme attached to the end, garnering over 5 million views in a day.

On the same day, TikToker^[6] @bstcopperplayer1 posted a meme referring to Patrick as Subaru, garnering over 1.8 million views in a day.

On March 4th, 2025, TikToker^[7] @cookieslayer_227 posted a meme that refers to Patrick as Subaru, garnering over 650,000 views in under a day.

That day, TikToker^[9] @aundreenderman posted a meme using an image of Patrick standing next to SpongeBob stuck in his "wringer" from the episode "Stuck in the Wringer," referring to Patrick as Subaru, garnering over 1.4 million views in a day.

Later that day, the woman who claims to have started the meme, Kylie Kozub, posted a video on TikTok^[10] about the meme.
