I Can Almost Taste It refers to a scene when Patrick Star licks ice pop that looks like Spongebob's from SpongeBob SquarePants. It received popularity by using the scene in image macro memes since September 2016.

Origin

On March 12th, 2001, season two episode 32 of SpongeBob SquarePants titled "The Smoking Peanut" premiered in the US^[1]. In the episode, Patrick tries to find the culprit who makes the clam cry, then he whispers to ice pop that looks like SpongeBob's and then licks it (scene shown below).

Spread

In the following years, the scene has inspired several fan arts. For example, on September 13th, 2016, DeviantArt^[2] user Anawinkaro uploaded Steven Universe fan art based on the scene. It received more than 1,500 views in seven years (shown below, left). On August 7th, 2019, DeviantArt^[3] user PersonatusTK uploaded Spider-Man and Venom comic that received more than 1,400 views in four years (shown below, right).

The scene also gained popularity after it was used as a reaction image and object labeling to depict people who get too close to express themselves. For example, on April 23rd, 2020, Reddit^[4] user quickflash90 uploaded the image as a reaction to the latest XCOM: Chimera Squad game release to /r/Xcom subreddit. The post received more than 1,200 upvotes in three years (shown below, left). On November 23rd, 2021, Reddit^[5] user deToph uploaded an object labeling to depicting the GameStop stocks to the /r/Superstonk subreddit. The post received more than 1,600 upvotes in two years (shown below, right).
