You Genuinely Need To Kill Yourself, also known as I Like Rubbing My Belly, refers to a single-panel comic by artist Fallenchungus in which a character is displeased by another character rubbing their belly to such a degree that they tell them to take their own life. Posted in August 2024, the webcomic achieved virality as an exploitable meme format, with users altering the dialogue and editing the drawing, often to reference various media.
Origin
On August 16th, 2024, webcomic artist Fallenchungus posted a single-panel comic depicting an interaction between two characters, one of which is rubbing his belly and comments that he likes it, with the other being displeased by it and telling him to take his own life. The post (shown below) received over 5,400 reposts and 90,000 likes on X[1] in four months.
Spread
Starting on the same day, users on X / Twitter used the comic as an exploitable, editing it and altering the dialogue. On August 16th, 2024, X[2] user @An00bis0480 posted the earliest found notable edit of the original comic, a Baki Apple Fritter meme that gained over 20 reposts and 570 likes in four months (shown below).
On September 18th, 2024, X[3] user @useobwaas posted a Disco Elysium version of the meme (shown below) that received over 940 reposts and 8,900 likes in three months
More memes based on the format were posted by users on X and Reddit in the following months, with the original being edited to make humorous references to various media and fandoms.
