I Fucking Hate You and Hope You Die or I Like Playing With Toys is an exploitable meme format based on a FallenChungus webcomic in which a child says, "I like playing with toys," and an angry adult standing behind him says, "I FUCKING HATE YOU AND HOPE YOU DIE." The comic was posted to X / Twitter in mid-May 2024 and became the subject of photoshops and edits over the following months on sites including X, Reddit and iFunny in which the characters are drawn over or labeled to alter the context.
Origin
On May 15th, 2024, X[1] artist @FallenChungus posted a comic depicting a man with veins bursting from his head yelling, "I FUCKING HATE YOU AND HOPE YOU DIE," to a child expressing how much he likes playing with toys, garnering over 43,000 likes and 4,300 reposts in four months.
On May 16th, X[2] user @FNaF_Funnies posted an edit of the comic referencing the game Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, garnering over 22,000 likes in four months. This is the earliest known edit of the meme.
Spread
The meme gained viral spread and became the further subject of edits over the following months.
On May 15th, 2024, the original was reposted to iFunny,[3] garnering over 3,000 smiles in four months. On July 17th, a version of the meme was posted to /r/dankmemes[4] in which the child's head is replaced with YouTuber PewDiePie's and the caption reads, "I like playing with my child," titled, "Why does he still get hate every year when he does nothing but be a family?" garnering over 13,000 upvotes in two months.
On August 13th, Redditor u/ladyoftherealm posted a version of the meme to /r/HistoryMemes[5] titled "German-Anglo naval arms race summarized," garnering over 12,000 upvotes in a month. On August 26th, a version of the meme was posted to /r/Guiltygear[6] that garnered over 2,600 upvotes in three weeks.
