About
Inklingification is the process of creating crossover art involving characters, real and fictional, reimagined as inklings (and octolings) from the third-person shooting video game Splatoon.
Origin
Splatoon was released in various parts of the world between May 28 and 30 of 2015. Prior to the release of the game, several pieces of artwork were released featuring a crossover between the game and the manga series Shinryaku! Ika Musume, which may have sparked some inspiration for later fanmade crossovers.[1]
Spread
On 15 May 2019, the subreddit r/thereiswoomyofit was founded based on images of inklingification and its variants.[2] As of 3 December 2019 it has reached over 1200 subscribers.
