Ironic Among Us Memes are memes expressing frustration towards the fanbase of the to the 2018 video game Among Us. This includes anti-memes, spamming the word sus to the point where it becomes incoherent, and occasionally the inclusion of very vague crewmate resemblance in mundane objects or shapes. They have increased in prevalence as the initial excitement surrounding the game in late 2020 decreased.
Origin
On mainstream meme subreddits as well as meme pages on other platforms such as Instagram, Among Us memes began to gradually turn ironic. This meme from September 2020 is the earliest known example of a popular meme that could be interpreted as such. It was uploaded to /r/memes in late 2020 by u/Huge_Cocki69[1] where it received over 18,000 upvotes and 57 comments.

Ironic Among Us memes began to be shared with the intention of calling out the effects Among Us has had on a person's mental health as well as the quality of memes. One popular example is this image of a book cover, which was uploaded to /r/memes in May 2021 by u/MrGibbsJr[3] using the title "I'm Gonna Die of Amogus." It received over 4,600 upvotes and 133 comments in two months.

The subreddit /r/amogus was formed on December 12, 2020 to share ironic Among Us memes. The most upvoted meme of all time on the subreddit is this post (seen below) by u/Plutonium2[2] from December of 2020. It received over 5,800 upvotes and 208 comments in eight months.
