About
Letter PFP Theory, or Letter Profile Picture Theory and the Wiedlak vs. Animators TikTok Drama, refers to the theory that social media accounts with profile pictures consisting of a colored background and a single letter, the default profile picture for Google accounts, post only high-quality video edits and brainrot content. The theory began spreading online in late February 2026, when user @goober7684 posted a video about the phenomenon, inspiring further videos and memes about the letter PFP theory over the following weeks.
The theory is tied to the so-called Wiedlak Community on TikTok and Instagram Reels, a community of users who follow this format and use Polish usernames. The community is named after Andrzej Wiedlak Wiedlak, one of the most popular examples of the letter PFP theory. People who post high-quality content with letter PFPs are sometimes referred to as "Wiedlaks."
As the theory spread, it inspired a wave of animators on TikTok to change their profile pictures to letters and make content animating their letter PFPs as OC characters. Some TikTokers believe this influx of letter PFP animations ruined the theory, as it turned the theory into a trend and resulted in low-quality content. This resulted in videos from Wiedlaks criticizing the animators.
Origin
The exact origins of the theory are unclear, however, it began to spread online in late February 2026.
On February 20th, 2026, TikToker[1] @goober7684 posted a meme captioned, "Live footage of letter pfps making highly intelligent videos," garnering over 1.3 million views in about two weeks. This is the earliest known, notable video to share the opinion that letter profile picture accounts post good videos.

On February 21st, TikToker[2] @ata.raxia67 posted a video using the term "letter PFP theory" and defining it, claiming that letter PFP accounts either post "the most brainrot sequence of videos" or "the most transcendental experience of all time," garnering over 518,000 views in two weeks.

Spread
As the theory spread, the TikTok[3] account @andrzej.wiedlak.w spread as one of the prime examples of the theory.
Animators soon picked up on the theory and began changing their profile pictures to follow the theory. They started a trend where they animate their letter PFPs as OC characters. Some original "Wiedlak community" account holders shared their frustrations with this, claiming it ruined the theory.
For example, on February 23rd, TikToker[4] @cinn_3m0 posted an original animation of their "c" profile picture dancing to the "Charlie Charlie Kirky" song, garnering over 3.2 million views in a week.

On February 25th, 2026, "letter PFP theory" was defined on Urban Dictionary.[5] That day, TikToker[6] @wither_w posted a video calling out animators jumping on the letter PFP theory as a trend, garnering over 420,000 views in a week.

On February 27th, TikToker[7] @trumdibitisibulachi_ posted a video about the theory where they compile animations related to letter PFP theory OCs, writing, "The letter pfp theory is being ruined by the corny animators and shippers!" garnering over 397,000 views in four days.

As the trend spread, more TikTokers began changing their PFPs to letters and posting brainrot edits, often using tags relating to the theory.
For example, on March 1st, TikToker[8] @b0ldville posted a brainrot edit that ends with their profile picture, a "b," tagged, "#letterpfptheory," garnering over 760,000 views in two days.

As more and more letter PFP accounts arrived on TikTok, some users posted videos suggesting that the coining of the term turned letter PFPs into a trend and effectively ruined the theory by making it too well-known.
For instance, on March 1st, TikToker[9] @talkden69 posted a video sharing this opinion, garnering over 600,000 views in two days.
