Liked by Pierre Gasly is a catchphrase about the French Formula One driver Pierre Gasly who mass-likes tweets, Instagram posts and TikToks, making it appear that he's critically online or a bot. The term became prominent in memes after a video of Gasly surfaced in 2022, showing him on four phones at once liking every TikTok he scrolled by. He's been mass-liking content and comments as early as 2016.
Origin
On July 21st, 2016, Twitter[1] user PetaPan17 tweeted, "Oh, Pierre Gasly liked my tweet. Let me be a fan of him now 😊" earning one like in six years (shown below). This is the first known piece of evidence to suggest the later "Liked by Pierre Gasly" cliché.
Spread
On September 29th, 2018 , Twitter[2] user SamCham10 tweeted, "Pierre Gasly said he liked my memes once, we’re pretty much besties 😂," earning two likes in four years (shown below, left). This tweet reiterated the cliché started by PetaPan17. By late 2020, the concept of "Liked by Pierre Gasly" became more commonplace and earned more engagement. For instance, on September 8th, 2020, Twitter[3] user slverarrws tweeted about "PIERRE P1 liked your tweet," gaining over 55 likes in two years (shown below, right).
On November 9th, 2021, Twitter[4] user wolffsupremacy tweeted, "Max is fast but 'liked by Pierre Gasly' is faster," earning roughly 3,500 likes in seven months (shown below, left). By early 2022, the catchphrase became notable on Instagram after the page f1wow reposted[5] a Dust Storm Dog meme on March 3rd, 2022 that earned roughly 9,800 likes in three months (shown below, right).
On June 12th, 2022, the Twitter[6] account alphataurif1 tweeted a video showing Pierre Gasly sitting at a desk with four smartphones, scrolling TikTok on each of them and liking photos. Over the course of three days, the video received roughly 1.3 million views and 56,300 likes (shown below). It was also reposted to Reddit's /r/formuladank[7] subreddit on June 12th, where it received roughly 28,100 upvotes in three days.
