Mamma Mia! Sequels refers to a series of parody sequels to the 2008 adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia!, using the phrasal template .
Origin
On May 19th, 2017, a sequel to the 2008 movie musical Mamma Mia!, entitled Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, was announced.[1]
The following year, on January 30th, 2018, Twitter [2] user @marlodjur tweeted a series of mock sequels that could follow Here We Go Again. They wrote, "Mamma Mia! Mamma Mia! 2: Here We Go Again Mamma Mia! 3: Now It's History Mamma Mia! 4: Confetti on the Floor Mamma Mia! 5: I'm Still Alive Mamma Mia! 6: Funny Tricks (of Time) Mamma Mia! 7: Explore the Heavens Mamma Mia! 8: Knowing My Fate Mamma Mia! 9: Everything Is Fine." The post (shown below) is among the earliest examples of the template and received more than 10 retweets and 50 likes in less than one year.

As the film's promotional campaign escalated in the months leading to its July 2018 release, people began to follow the template to parody the film's title. Six months after @marlodjur, Twitter[3] user @thebookofsarah published her own list of sequels. They wrote, "Mamma Mia Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again Mamma Mia 3: My My
Mamma Mia 4: How Can I Resist You? Mamma Mia 5: Does It Show Again Mamma Mia 6: Just How Much I Missed You?
Mamma Mia 7: Yes, I've Been Broken-hearted Mamma Mia 8: Blue Since The Day We Parted Mamma Mia 9: Why Did I Eve." The post (shown below, left) exposed the format to a larger audience than before, receiving more than 43,000 retweets and 138,000 likes in less than two months.
Following the release of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, more sequel suggestions appeared online. On July 19th, Twitter[4] user @HeatherNormativ tweeted a list that parodied the The Fast and the Furious film franchise. They wrote, "Mamma Mia 2 Mamma 2 Mia Mamma Mia: Tokyo Drift Mamma & Mia Mamma Five Mamma & Mia 6 Mia 7 The Fate of the Mia." The post (shown below, center) received more than 36,000 retweets and 122,000 likes in less than one week.
The trend continued over the next week as more people posted mock sequels. On July 22nd, Twitter[5] user @laurabonang wrote, Mamma Mia: Knowing 3, Knowing You Mamma Mia: 4nando Mamma Mia: 5 Been Cheated By You (And I Think You Know When) Mamma Mia 6: Tokyo Drift." The post (shown below, right) received more than 12,000 retweets and 50,000 likes in less than two days.
