Man in Underwear Lying on Bed Surrounded By Garbage is an image macro series featuring an edited picture of a man lying a bed surrounded by aluminum cans and other assorted trash. On Twitter, people captioned the image with jokes about what the man is typing on his computer.

Origin

On April 6th, 2020, Twitter^[1] user @suspence_0 posted the unedited version of the image on Twitter. The post received more than 3,100 likes and 175 retweets in less than two weeks (shown below).

Three days later, they tweeted a variation of the image in which trash surrounds the subject. They captioned the tweet,^[2] "me: hey baby wyd? man: playing animal crossing ^_ me: me too >.< hehe." The tweet received more than 825 likes and 115 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

Spread

On April 10th, 2020, Twitter^[3] user @cremeeggstan tweeted the image with the caption "'Actually leg hair on a woman is disgusting and shows that they aren’t making any effort.'" The tweet received more than 318,000 likes and 64,000 retweets in less than four days (shown below, left).

Following the post, the image went viral on Twitter, inspiring several variations. For example, Twitter^[5] user @bIondiewasabi tweeted the picture with the caption "astrology is so stupid I could never be with a girl who believes in that shit." The tweet received more than 153,000 likes and 18,000 retweets in less than two days (example below, center).

On April 11th, @suspence_0 tweeted^[4] a series of texts that led to the creation of the image edit. Within less than one week, the post received more than 4,600 likes and 430 retweets (shown below, right).
