About
Me perdonas? and its misspelled forms (meperd0n as¿ or meper d0nas?) refer to a shitpost image macro of a cat’s face edited into the sky of London that is used to apologize to other online users. The image is usually accompanied by the phrase “Meperd0n as¿” and a copypasta from the chorus of the song "Un Siglo Sin Ti" by Chayanne. The name “Me Perdonas” is also used to refer to the cat edit as a character.
Willyouf0rgive me¿
If I’ve failed you, I ask for forgiveness in the only way I know how: by opening the doors of my heart for when you decide to return. I just want your friendship.
Origin
Cat and City Original Images
On August 13th, 2003 the cat breeder site crystalcats.co.uk uploaded the photo of a 2 weeks old Abyssinian kitten named Ron (shown below) as part of an album about a new born litter.[1]
On February 23rd, 2000, Computer Science professor Eric Brewer from the University of California, Berley took photos of London's skyline during a trip to the city.[2] The album features many views of the the Millenium Wheel, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben (shown below).
Sky Kitten
On May 5th, 2006, game designer Mata Haggis-Burridge posted an edit of the kitten's face to his blog The Matazone[3] (shown below, left). Thirteen years later, Mata confirmed his authorship in a comment under the same blog entry, and through a Facebook[4] post on March 19th, 2019. The mashup would be used later as cover art for the music album Giant Kitten released on March 6th, 2009, by Carrie Dalby (shown below, right).[5]
Meperd0n as¿
On February 7th, 2018, YouTuber[8] Nathan Cormac / Joel uploaded a video using the image of the cat and the caption "Meperd0n as¿" which received nearly 25,000 views, 190 likes, 380 dislikes and 70 comments in almost three years (shown below). Some recounts credit the origin of the image macro to the Latin American Facebook[6][7] shitpost community Curiosidades Feas (aka, “Curiosos feos” or “Curifeos”), but Joel has asserted to have created the meme.[9][24]
Spread

On March 29th, user Buizel[11] reposted it (shown below, left) and gained over 3.7 million views in less than three years. On June 7th, YouTube[12] channel meperd0n as¿ uploaded a longer version claiming it to be the original one, and on December 7th, a reupload by user Fans_cats _gatos[13] (shown below, right) gained over 1.9 million views in the same time period.
On December 8th, 2018, the Facebook[14] page Humor Mas posted a Loquendo video called "TEORIA Que pasaria si no perdonan a meper d0nas?" (which translates to "THEORY What would happen if you don't forgive meper d0nas?") that claims Me Perdonas is a god-like entity created by Nanachi from Made in Abyss, who can only be defeated by Chinese Homer (shown below, left). The video has collected over 927,000 views, 25,000 reactions and 15,000 comments as of November 2020. The post accumulated over 34,000 reactions, 1,900 comments and 9,000 shares in two years.
The "Me Perdonas" voice clip was also used by Mexican streamer QuackityHQ as a donation sound for his Twitch channel during 2019 and 2020 (example, shown below).[22][23]
Yuumi’s League of Legends Voice Line
Following the announcement of the new League of Legends heroine Yuumi. Fans from the Latin American community started associating the feline heroine with the Me Perdonas meme (examples shown below).
On May 5th, 2019, users of the North and South Latinamerican LoL board forums[17][18] requested the addition of a new voice line so that whenever a player steals a kill using Yuumi, she would ask “Me Perdonas?”. On May 14th, 2019, League of Legends LATAM announced the addition of the phrase through a tweet[19] and held a poll[20][21] to choose between five different audios of her voice actress (shown below).
