MILF

About

MILF is an acronym for the expression "mom I'd like to fuck," which is used to describe a sexually attractive mother or middle-aged woman, also referred to as a "cougar." The term is commonly featured as a subcategory on various sexually explicit websites.

Origin

The earliest known usage of "MILF" can be found in a thread on the Usenet group alt.mag.playboy^[4] submitted by user ChiPhiMike on January 12th, 1995. In the thread, he describes several models shown in a pictorial spread from an issue of Playboy Magazine as "MILFs." Unrelatedly, the acronym has been used in the Western media to refer to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a Filipino minority rebel group seeking autonomy from the government, since the late 1970s.

In the 1999 teen comedy film American Pie, the character MILF Guy No. 2 (played by John Cho) describes the mother of the character Steve Stifler as a "MILF" (shown below).

On July 21st, 2004, The Smoking Gun^[2] reported that the state of Washington cancelled resident Michael Syravong's "GOTMILF" personalized license plate tag after receiving numerous complaints. On July 6th, 2007, the GoodNeighborStuff YouTube channel uploaded a video titled "My Mom's a MILF," in which a son admits he finds his mother attractive (shown below, left). On October 24th, 2007, The New York Times^[1] published an article "Of MILF and Men" about the growing mainstream popularity of the initialism. On May 5th, 2009, the Fine Brothers uploaded a video titled "Mother's Day MILF," in which YouTuber Shane Dawson is seduced by his girlfriend's mother (shown below, right). Over the following six years, the video garnered more than 9.9 million views and 6,600 comments.

On December 7th, 2012, the WatchMojo.com YouTube channel uploaded a video titled "Top 10 Movie Milfs" (shown below). Within three years, the video gained over 18 million views and 5,100 comments. On January 31st, 2014, YouTuber TimothyDeLaGhetto posted a video titled "Is she a MILF or nah?" (shown below, right), garnering upwards of 1.3 million views and 1,400 comments.

On October 10th, YouTuber JinkiesTV uploaded a prank video in which he asks middle-aged women to go out with him (shown below, left). On March 18th, 2015, YouTuber VitalyzdTv posted a video in which he delivers various pickup lines to mothers in public (shown below, right). In the next three months, the video accumulated more than 7.7 million views and 10,300 comments.

DILF

DILF is an initialism for "dad I'd like to fuck" created as the male counterpart to a MILF, with the earliest Urban Dictionary^[3] entry for the term defined by user my_mom on March 3rd, 2003. On Instagram, DILFs of Disneyland, a single topic blog featuring photographs of attractive men with their children at various Disney-franchised theme parks, went viral upon its launch in August 2014.
