About
The Nintendo DS Bag Optical Illusion is a photograph of a Nintendo DS shoulder bag set on a table in a way that makes the straps resemble a woman's backside. The optical illusion was first shared online as early as June 2018 to the /r/misleadingthumbnails subreddit and garnered viral spread over the following years as a meme, often posted as if it's just a normal photo of a DS bag.
Origin
On June 22nd, 2018, Redditor u/plasticparr0t posted a photograph of a Nintendo DS carrying bag on the /r/misleadingthumbnails[1] subreddit, titling the post, "That Ass!" garnering over 7,100 upvotes in seven years. This is the earliest known post to share the image.
Spread
The photo garnered viral spread over the following years as an optical illusion. On June 25th, 2018, Yahoo! Lifestyle[2] reported on it after it was reposted to the /r/confusing_perspective[3] subreddit. On July 17th, eBaum's World[4] included it in their list of "56 Dank Memes To Keep You Laughing."
On June 28th, 2021, X[5] user @JordanRowes posted the photo with the caption, "Before the Prada and Gucci bags," garnering over 5,500 likes and 2,600 reposts in four years.
On November 18th, X[6] user @prezoh posted the image, writing, "I WANNA RIM THIS NINTENDO DS BAG SO BADDDDD," garnering over 3,600 likes in four years.
On March 5th, 2022, the @NostalgiaNinten X[7] page then posted the image, garnering over 1,300 likes in three years.
On April 13th, 2023, X[8] user @slvppy posted the image, writing, "nintendo ds was ahead of its time," garnering over 52,000 likes and 1,900 reposts in two years.
On September 2nd, YouTuber[9] EmSwizzle posted a video about Nintendo-related optical illusions, starting with the bag, garnering over 2.6 million views in two years.
On June 11th, 2025, the image was posted to the /r/pics[10] subreddit, titled, "Apparently, while scrolling, this pic looks like a butt," garnering 970 upvotes in a week.
On June 16th, Redditor u/Tauren-Jerky posted the image to the /r/Switch[11] subreddit, titled, "Will my Switch 2 Fit In This?" garnering over 1,300 upvotes before it was deleted by mods.
