About

NumNum Cat, also known as Num Num Cat or simply Cat Drinking Milk, refers to a viral video of a cat named Leo drinking milk from a spoon while making a "num num" sound. The video was first posted to Instagram in May 2021 and went viral in late June after musician The Kiffness remixed the video into a beat, inspiring a remix trend. The video has also seen viral success on TikTok.

Origin

On May 27th, 2021, Instagram[1] user @thelifeofleocat, a page dedicated to an orange cat named Leo, posted a video of Leo drinking milk from a spoon while making musical "num num" sounds (shown below). The video went viral, garnering over 2 million likes in two months.



Spread

On June 27th, 2021, musician The Kiffness posted a video remixing the NumNum cat video live to YouTube,[2] garnering over 750,000 views in two weeks (shown below). A teaser for the video on his TikTok[3] page gained over 50,000 views in the same span of time.



The Kiffness' video inspired a number of musicians both on TikTok and YouTube to respond to the video, adding further instrumentation to the remix.

On June 28th, YouTuber[4] and musician Violino em Dobro uploaded a video response to The Kiffness' video adding violins to the track, gaining over 100,000 views in two weeks (shown below).



On July 3rd, TikToker[5] @sherzodergashev_ posted a video adding sitar to the beat, garnering over 3.4 million views in just under two weeks (shown below).

On July 4th, The Kiffness uploaded another remix to YouTube,[6] this time combining numerous musicians who added to the beat to make a sort of ultimate remix, garnering over 433,000 views in just over a week (shown below).
