Papyrus is the name of a character found within the game Undertale. The brother of Sans, Papyrus has been found in several different memes since his inception, as well as becoming a fan-favorite character for his personality and jokes.

Origin

Papyrus' first appeared in 2013 as a bonus in the demo for Undertale, as well as in a video created for the game's Kickstarter.[1] He later appeared in the game proper when it was released in 2015, appearing new the beginning of the game and being against the player-character for being a human. If the player character becomes friends with Papyrus, he becomes an essential part of the game's secret True Pacifist Route.

Papyrus' Spaghetti refers to a series of jokes that involve Papyrus and his love for Spaghetti, which is taken from direct lines within the game about him loving it.

Everyone Deserves Mercy or Most People Deserve Mercy refers to an exploitable Undertale meme format made up of three vertically stacked text boxes; the first, spoken by Papyrus, reads, "Everyone deserves mercy." The bottom panel reads, "Most people deserve mercy." The middle panel, attributed to Frisk, says something that makes Papyrus change his mind about the first statement. The format was first used on Reddit in August 2019.
