About
Raven Beak is an antagonist in the Metroid series of video games and the final boss of Metroid Dread. After the release of Metroid Dread, the character became a popular subject of fan art on social media.
Origin
In the Metroid series, Raven Beak is a Chozo leader of the Mawkin tribe.[1] He first appeared in a Chozo Memory cutscene in 2017's Metroid: Samus Returns (shown below, left). In Metroid Dread, he is introduced in the beginning of the game as the game's main villain (shown below, right).
Spread
Around the release of Metroid Dread, Raven Beak became a popular subject of fan art for fans of the game. For example, on August 31st, a month before the game's release, Twitter user @entiqua[3] posted a piece that garnered over 2,100 retweets and 9,000 likes (shown below, left). On October 12th, Twitter user @difdifme[2] posted a piece that gained over 3,000 retweets and 14,000 likes (shown below, right).
Other users used Raven Beak in existing meme templates. For example, user @CartridgeGames[4] posted a How To Talk To Short People parody that gained over 75 retweets and 690 likes (shown below, left). On August 28th, a /v/[5] user posted an edit of The Risk I Took Was Calculated (shown below, right).
