Scared Dog Meme, also known as Shocked Brown Dog, Worried Dog Meme, Scared Dog Reaction Memes or Mirror Dog, refers to a series of reaction images, GIFs and exploitable memes derived from videos and pictures of Belle The Dog (bellebows4117), a brown dog that has a birth defect causing her head to be stretched and her facial expressions wide-eyed. The most prominent meme of Belle comes from a 2022 Facebook Marketplace post selling a mirror in which she looks shocked, scared or worried while looking at her reflection. Other images and clips of the dog have gone similarly viral during the mid-2020s due to her unique expressions.

Since garnering virality online in mid-June 2022, multiple videos, GIFs and images of Belle have been used in memes online, most commonly in the form of simple reactions, TikTok stickers, GIF captions and image macros in which the dog is used to express shock or fear of something. Other memes also use Belle's unique facial expressions in exploitables that edit the dog into different scenes, especially horror-related scenarios.

Origin

Belle The Dog, a dog who often makes unique expressions that make her appear frightened or surprised, first garnered attention online after the owner posted an image of her looking into a mirror sitting on a floor in a Facebook Marketplace listing for a "Large Mirror with Oak Frame 29×41 $25." The original post is no longer active, but it appeared sometime in June 2022 and then spread via reposts on social media.

On June 15th, 2022, the image was posted to Reddit on the /r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog^[7] subreddit, titled "Large mirror for sale," which received over 6,700 upvotes and 60 comments in four years.

Users later isolated the image of Belle's face in the reflection, adding two human hands and a phone to make it appear like she was shocked by something on her phone, and began using it as a reaction meme online as early as the summer of 2022.^[8]

For instance, on June 28th, 2022, X^[5] / Twitter user @reactjpg posted one of the earliest known examples of the Shocked Dog Phone meme variant, which spread across the platform in the following months.

The Belle O’Neill TikTok^[1] account, @bellebows4117, was then created sometime in mid-June 2022, following her initial virality online, which showcases Belle in numerous videos and images. The account currently stands at about 877,100 followers and has accumulated over 29.8 million likes as of April 2026.

The first post on Belle's TikTok account from June 16th, 2022, features a video of the dog with the owner discussing her virality at the time, which garnered over 2,700 likes and 30 comments in roughly four years.

As Belle's online presence continued to grow, screenshots of her shocked expressions began circulating the internet^[4] as reaction images and exploitables, particularly X / Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit and TikTok in mid-to-late 2022.

Belle's owner then launched additional social media pages for the dog, including an Instagram^[9] in June 2022 and a YouTube^[10] channel in October 2022.

The earliest video on the Belle the Dog YouTube channel was uploaded on October 5th, 2022, which discusses Belle’s adoption story and her unique look that made her famous.

On July 17th, 2022, the @bellebows4117 TikTok^[3] account posted another video, this time reaching over 14.4 million views and 2.1 million likes in roughly four years.

On August 27th, 2022, the @bellebows4117 TikTok^[6] account posted about Belle becoming a meme, which received over 1.4 million views and 221,800 likes in under four years.

The @bellebows4117 TikTok^[2] account gained further virality following a video posted on December 18th, 2022, where Belle makes a shocked expression. The video has received over 16.2 million views and 2.8 million likes in roughly four years.

On November 21st, 2025, the @bellebows4117 TikTok^[6] account posted another video compiling various memes that have been made using pictures of Belle throughout the years, which received over 2.3 million views and 386,300 likes in under six months.
