Seth MacFarlane Throwing Peter Griffin Toy In The Air refers to a photograph of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane with his hands outspread, surrounding a Peter Griffin toy that he presumably threw in the air, making it appear as if it's suspended in the air between his palms. The photo originally appeared in a 2010 Details interview with MacFarlane and became the subject of memes as an exploitable format, including redraws, in September 2024 when X / Twitter user @sillyfarters posted it and encouraged users to draw their OC and comfort characters in the same pose.
Origin
The August 2010 issue of Details[1] features an interview with Seth MacFarlane. In the article is a photograph of Seth MacFarlane, taken by Jennifer Livingston, in which it appears as if he is making a Peter Griffin figurine levitate in the air.
On September 13th, 2024, X[2] user @sillyfarters posted the photograph, writing, "draw you and your oc/comfort character like this," garnering over 65,000 likes and 5,900 reposts in five days.
Spread
The photo of MacFarlane gained viral spread over the following days, also inspiring numerous redraws.
On September 14th, 2024, the photo was reposted by X[3] user @OldInternetFeel, garnering over 1,000 likes in four days. Later that day, X[4] artist @turnaboutWOT posted an edit of the photo replacing MacFarlane's face with Redd White's from the Ace Attorney series and Peter with a statue, garnering over 4,700 likes in four days.
On the same day, X[5] user @sillyfarters posted an edit inspired by the image in which a Peter Griffin doll levitates between Fred Durst's hands, garnering over 2,000 likes in four days.
On September 15th, 2024, the original photo was reposted to /r/fakehistoryporn,[6] titled, "God creates Adam (1,000,000 BC)," garnering around 150 upvotes in three days. Later that day, a redraw of the image was posted to /r/azudaioh,[7] garnering a similar number of upvotes in the same span of time. On September 16th, it was reposted to iFunny,[8] garnering over 1,000 smiles in two days.
