She's Not Gonna Let You Hit Bro, sometimes stylized as She Not Gon Let You Hit Bro or She's Not Going To Let You Hit Bro, is a slang expression that is used in replies as a derogatory remark towards someone who is seen defending a woman, typically acting like a White Knight, or being overly complimentary online. The phrase is often used in an attempt to shut down the person's activities or demean and mock them by explicitly stating that the only reason they are engaging in the behavior is because they are trying to get with the person they are defending. Though sometimes used in memes, the expression is primarily used as a standalone catchphrase in replies and originally appeared online in late 2016.

Origin

The slang phrase has been used online for years to varying degrees, often with slight variations to how it's written. On December 27th, 2016, one of the earliest examples of it as a generalized statement was used on X / Twitter, with the X user @deejay075^[1] tweeting it out into the void while using the screaming head emojis (shown below).

Spread

The phrase would go through minor revisions before predominantly settling on "she's not gonna let you hit bro" as the most common form.

On February 15th, 2020, the phrase was used as a QRT aimed at YouTuber MrBeast as he was showing a Valentine's Day gift to his no ex-girlfriend Maddy. That day, X user @SolomonAdekale^[2] used a QRT to proclaim to MrBeast that his girlfriend was "not gonna let you hit bro" (shown below).

On TikTok, the phrase "She's Not Gonna Let You Hit Bro" would continue to see usage in subsequent years, both with people being for and against it, as it sometimes sparked arguments when used.

For example, on November 20th, 2022, TikToker rishi_joe69^[3] uploaded a meme edit from God of War 3 in which they were trying to save a girl but then they were told the phrase by someone, so they gave up and proceeded to beat the person instead of saving her, earning over 26,000 likes in two years (shown below).
