About

15.ai, also known as Fifteen.ai, is a text-to-speech AI tool that one can use to generate voices of various characters. The voices are generated in real-time using multiple audio synthesis algorithms and neural networks trained on very little available data. After the site launched in early 2020, it led many to experiment with the various available characters on the site as it went viral over the following year.

History

On March 6th, 2020 MIT released the 15.ai software^[1] it had been working on for the previous two years. It started gaining notoriety online on YouTube and Twitter on the following days. The software was advertised by a video from Valve News Network which showed off GlaDOs and others talking about the site.

For the creation of the MLP voice packs the author used the files created by the Pony Voice Preservation Project^[2] of /mlp/, to train the neural network. The project was posted about in the subreddit /r/MachineLearning in a thread by AlertSignificance,^[3] gaining over 380 points.

Right now the site has the option to create Text to speech audios from the following characters:

• My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (Twilight Sparkle, Rarity and Fluttershy)

• Portal (GlaDOs, Chell and a planned Wheatley)

• The Stanley Parable (The Narrator and Stanley)

• Doctor Who (The tenth doctor)

• Undertale (Sans)

• Team Fortress 2 (Soldier and Pyro)

With a few other planned ones like Rick and Morty and Steven Universe.
