About

Slurmcore is a remix meme involving modification of existing music by increasing the speed and using the "Beats" function in the audio production program Ableton. While the Tumblr post inspiring the genre was posted in 2017, the meme saw a resurgence in 2025 after the original audio was reposted to Youtube.

Origin

The post which inspired the creation of this genre was created by Tumblr user "SoundDesignerJeans" on December 17, 2017. The post contained a modified version of the song I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the band The Proclaimers, paired with a GIF based on the John Lennon The Adbsolute Madman meme. The audio became referred to as "Mmmm Slurms" based on a comment left by Tumblr user minervafloofderg stating "This is the only mp3 I've ever downloaded off this site that had metadata of any kind and it's Mmmm Slurms." The blog has since been deleted, but the post was archived using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine[1]. Additionally, the audio clip was reuploaded to Youtube on May 15, 2018 by user Renmin[2].

Spread

The mainstream spread of this meme began on September 27, 2025, when Youtube user Dman reuploaded the video under the title "My Favorite Tumblr Audio of All Time: Mmmm Slurms"[3] (below, left), which was spread by the Youtube Recommendation Algorithm and gained almost 75,000 views in one month. On October 1, 2025, Youtube user S*tuff uploaded an explanation of how the audio was most likely created, titled "Mmmm Slurms: Ableton Remake"[4], increasing the BPM of the song and using the "Beats" warp function in the audio production program Ableton (below, right).

Shortly following this, on October 8, 2025, S*tuff then uploaded a video titled "Slurmcore: Weezer – Buddy Holly"[5], using the same Ableton function on the song Buddy Holly by Weezer (below).
