About

Donald Trump Meme Coin, also known as TRUMP MEME or $TRUMP, is a cryptocurrency launched on the Solana blockchain by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 17th, 2025. The meme coin is marketed as "the only official Trump meme," and it gained significant attention for its rapid market performance peak shortly after its release just before Trump's presidential inauguration, rising more than 600 percent overnight and reaching a market cap of $72 billion in roughly two days. Trump was accused of facilitating a rug pull after crypto investors realized that 80 percent of the token supply was held in a single wallet upon release. The coin's value also plummeted rapidly after his wife Melania Trump released her own meme coin, $MELANIA, on January 19th, 2025.

History

On January 17th, 2025, United States President Donald Trump announced via X / Twitter[1] his meme coin "$TRUMP,"[2] writing, "My NEW Official Trump Meme is HERE." The post (seen below) received more than 81 million views and 324,000 likes in three days.

According to BBC,[3] the cryptocurrency was coordinated by CIC Digital LLC, "an affiliate of the Trump Organization — which has previously sold Trump-branded shoes and fragrances." As of January 19th, 2025, the CoinMarketCap[4] website showed that $TRUMP saw a growth of 1622040.62 percent since its inception on January 17th (seen below).

Market Performance

The $TRUMP meme coin rose more than 600 percent overnight in less than 48 hours, giving the meme coin a "a fully diluted market capitalization just north of $72 billion," as the Axios website explained.[5] According to a Cointelegraph[6] article from January 19th, 2025, the cryptocurrency was the "15th-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, reaching it in under 48 hours."

The Trump Organization and its affiliates reportedly hold 80 percent of the total supply, which is subject to a three-year unlocking schedule to prevent immediate sell-offs.[6]

Online Presence

The official Donald Trump meme coin gained significant media and online attention in mid-to-late January 2025, sparking discussions about the President's intentions, as well as memes fueled by crypto enthusiasts across social media.
