Minecraft Manhunt is an unofficial play mode for the video game Minecraft created by video game streamer Dream. The game requires the player to defeat the Ender Dragon before three hunters track down and kill the player.

History

On December 26th, 2020, YouTuber Dream posted the video "Beating Minecraft, But My Friend Tries To Stop Me…" In the video, Dream explains that he is attempting to beat Minecraft before his friend kills him in the game. Dream's friend only has a compass to track him and can respond infinitely. The post received more than 6.7 million views in less than one year (shown below).



Over the next few weeks, Dream continued to post videos of the challenge. On December 31st, he posted "Minecraft Speedrunner vs Someone Trying to Stop Them." The post received more than 9.6 million views in less than one year (shown below, left).

On May 31st, 2020, Dream posted "Minecraft Speedrunner VS 3 Hunters." The post received more than 32 million views in less than one year (shown below, right).



That summer, the videos continued to grow in popularity. On August 7th, 2020, Dream posted the video "Minecraft Speedrunner VS 3 Hunters GRAND FINALE," which received more than 39 million views in less than three months (shown below). It is the most popular video in the series as of October 2020.



Reception

Several well-known gamers have joined Dream in Minecraft Manhunt, including Minecraft creator Notch and MrBeast. [2]

Fans reacted positively to the videos. The hashtag #MinecraftManhunt frequently goes viral on Twitter, with fans posting artwork based on the video (examples below).

On April 21st, 2020, in the /r/PewdiePieSubmissions[1] subreddit, Redditor dreamistaken posted an invitation for the video game streamer PewdiePie to appear in the game. The post received more than 17,000 points (97% upvoted) and 470 comments in less than one year (shown below).
