This Transition Is Everything refers to a series of memes parodying a scene of the Hazbin Hotel character Charlie Morningstar growing visibly angry in the trailer for the animated series. The format achieved brief popularity on X / Twitter in mid-December 2023 as users began posting the catchphrase alongside parodies of other transitions and animations.

Origin

On December 13th, 2023, the first trailer for the 2024 animated series Hazbin Hotel premiered on YouTube^[1] (shown below). In one scene of the trailer (1:30 mark), the character Charlie Morningstar grows visibly angry, her eyes and face turning red, her hair fluffing up, and the paper in her hands catching fire and burning.

On December 13th, the official X^[2] / Twitter account for the show posted four frames from the scene, captioning the post, "This transition is EVERYTHING" (shown below, left). The post garnered over 6,400 reposts and quote posts and 47,000 likes in one week. Notably, each of the frames was accompanied by an image description, with the last frame described as, "Charlie looks like she's about to GO OFF" (shown below, right).

On December 14th, 2023, X^[3] user @sighkickyt made the earliest parody of the post, replying to it with four increasingly red-tinted images of Mario and copying the caption. The post (shown below) received over 510 reposts and 9,400 likes on X in five days.

In the following days, more users posted memes parodying the Hazbin Hotel post. For example, on December 15th, 2023, X^[4] user @slice0pie1 replied to the post with a viral GIF of a man turning into a dog, with the post (shown below, left) gaining over 190 reposts and 3,300 likes in four days. Later that day, X^[5] user @Trey_Explainer quoted the post with a GIF of a video camera turning into director George Lucas. The post (shown below, right) garnered over 320 reposts and 5,000 likes in four days.

More parody memes using the caption were posted on X in the following days.
