To Measure My Abilities is a paraphrased quote from Naruto that grew popular after a parody webcomic of the scene featuring Rugrats characters became an exploitable.
Origin
In episode 135 of Naruto, which aired November 19th, 2009,[1] Sasuke asks Itachi why he has slaughtered the entire Uchihara clan, to which Itachi responds, "To test the limits of my abilities (shown below).
On April 2nd, 2011, Tumblr user Spitcastle[2] posted a comic in which the scene was recreated with Dil and Tommy Pickles from Rugrats, gaining over 3,300 notes (shown below).
Spread
The comic spread through the internet over the following years, appearing on Funnyjunk[3] on August 17th, 2012 and Reddit's /r/naruto[4] on August 5th, 2015. On Tumblr, the comic was used as a reaction image and a quote after a post paired it with a choice button that said you can get anything free in a shop forever but you have to kill your entire family (shown below).
Popular posts parodying this include a post by Rubiline that gained over 15,000 notes (shown below, left) and a Star Wars parody by itwashotwestayedinthewater (shown below, right).
The comic itself was also parodied in many exploitable edits. One example, an I Will Survive parody by Twitter user @doge_king, gained over 12,000 retweets and 23,000 likes (shown below, left). Tumblr user discount-supervillain parodied the comic with Animal Crossing characters (shown below, right).
