Weenie Hut Jr's vs. The Salty Spitoon is an exploitable meme using two locations from SpongeBob SquarePants. The meme uses the two locations to compare something incredibly easy (represented by Weenie Hut Jr.'s) vs something very difficult (represented by the Salty Spitoon).

Origin

The scene comes from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode titled No Weenies Allowed, which first aired on March 15th, 2002.^[1] In the episode, SpongeBob and Sandy Cheeks attempt to enter The Salty Spitoon. While Sandy easily makes it inside, SpongeBob is unable to prove himself worthy of entering. The Spitoon's bouncer, Reg, suggests SpongeBob try the place across the street: Weenie Hut Jr.'s.

Of note, the same episode also has the scenes that became the Welcome to the Salty Spitoon meme, Patrick Gets Beaten Up, and I Only Cried For 20 Minutes.

In the years following the episode's release, the images of the Salty Spitoon and Weenie Hut Jr.s were used in comparison memes to joke about hard vs. simple tasks. The earliest examples added to the Know Your Meme database date back to 2014 and 2015 (examples shown below).

On August 3rd, 2019, Buzzfeed^[2] posted a quiz sorting takers into the Salty Spitoon or Weenie Hut Jr.'s. On April 7th, Redditor Hunkir posted an example (using the episode's ending punchline, "Weenie Hut General) in /r/BikiniBottomTwitter,^[3] gaining over 1,100 points in five years (shown below, left). On March 2nd, 2023, Twitter user @fightstickart^[4] made an example comparing fighting video games, gaining over 720 retweets and 3,600 likes in one year (shown below, right).
