Look, may be weird, but I had a chat with OP. He's allowing me in.

Okay, so I misread. (I'm pretty sure he said he'll accept it, but okay.)

He currently says he'll have an answer on Turn 0.

Research and create new tech, explore new worlds, and discover treasures and secrets of the cosmos. Those are some of my main goals for this game but I do have others.

Personally I've got my eyes set on expansion and research, I'd say that is my short term goal, as well as finding out if I have any NPC neighbours beyond my system. On the other hand a financial economy is nonexistent among my species so that is one thing that I needn't worry about aswell as governmental issues. Additionally I do plan on crafting alliances.

Looking at the game overall though I can see a mile off that there is going to be some serious warfare going down

I think the game for me will be alot more complex in conquest and exploration.Especially for conquering civilized and unihabitable planets.

my species will do what the SOVIET UNION! did. But not the Downfall.

I want to insure complete galactic saturation.

Kidding, I just want people to not invade me. And if they do, I'm nuking my entire solar system.
But not before putting up a fight.

Before that happens, I kinda just want to put research into defense and military weaponry. That's gonna be gud c:

Develop a military.

Consolidate. I'd rather have a sturdy base of "Inner worlds" than a network of colonies.

My silly race requires an equally silly goal. I'll probably just have them shit around in space and do whatever comes to mind. Since they can only inhabit suns, which in turn can't be inhabited by anyone else, they have no reason to go to war other than in retaliation or just for the hell of it.

Aw hell naw. Don't think for a second you can have any space on my suns. Yo gross ass corpses will make property values go to the shitter.

SCIENCE!
And throwing things into black holes of course, but science comes first.

Defense. First order for my Acrobrae to survive, is defense.

The shall develop technology and advanced armor in order to succeed at being the most durable sentinents alive!

(ahem)

And then they will take into offense.

Advanced armor?

When primitive teddy bears can destroy an organized modern army, armor becomes pointless.

You know what's also pointless? Pointing out the fact that armor was useless in a movie where laser swords that pop up at a push of a button were a thing.

Calm down I was only making a joke, no need to take it so literally.

Dude we're playing a scifi/fantasy roleplay where you're playing a race of aliens you designed in Spore. I don't think lightsabers are too unrealistic in this situation.

I don't want to start an arguement here, no use getting mad at Slime. Don't know what provoked him, but let's just forget about it and focus on the thread.

Agreed. Emotions are petty and obsolete. Continue discussion.

Turn 0
Earth Year 2150
Deadline: 48 hours

To send in actions for Turn one, please send me a PM titled "Turn 1 (Civ Name)" with your civ name as it appears in the key below. For instance, "Turn 1 United Earth" would be how the NPC titles its PM to me if the NPC were a player. You are limited to five actions per turn. Within your PM you must preface each action with the name of the star system it takes place in. For instance, "Sol: Do the space thing." is how NPC would tell me to do something in the Sol System. If you fail to preface your actions I will ignore them. To edit a turn, simply resend all of your actions in a new PM with the original title. Do not append your turn with something like "Edit 1." I will only read the very last PM you send me with "Turn 1 (Civ Name)" as its title. Technology may be discovered at a rate of one tech per turn. To discover technology, append the action with "Tech:" instead of a star name. Technology does not have to be realistic; this is a game of speculative fiction.

The first five turns will be accelerated, and will skip through time at a rate of fifty years per turn. More can be accomplished in these five turns so far as settling new worlds goes. For every turn after that, the game speed will be set at fifteen years per turn. The game is not guaranteed to last any sort of length, but my usual limit is twenty turns.

I will inform you of the length of time you have to send in your actions for each turn. This is refered to as the deadline. After the deadline is reached, I may at any point state in the thread that I have started writing the next turn. Once I say this you may not send any more actions or edits until after the next turn is posted. You may still send actions and edits after the deadline is reached, but this is risky as I may at any time start writing the turn. I suggest that you hurry to send initial actions and then add edits in later so that you do not miss a turn.

The following maps show each star system and are named after the very first star in the system. You should take a look at all of them, as they are the only systems you will encounter in this game. You start the game with FTL travel tech, meaning that you can travel between these systems fairly quickly. Intercepting fleets between stars is not possible and the construction of a deep space station is not allowed, as it is pointless when you can travel between stars so quickly. Fleets will be represented by your flags on the system maps. Currently nobody has any major space fleets, meaning your first turn should probably include the construction of one. You may not colonize planets in another star system without first having a fleet to send there, but you may do so without a fleet if you already occupy one of the planets in that system.

Being that nothing has happened yet, there are no nation stats in this turn. Turn 1 will have several sections of the post divided up with one section for each player, including text detailing their tech and action results. Feel free to voice any concerns or ask any questions you have.

Let's do this! Good luck everyone!

EDIT: So are we allowed to have orders like "Develop laser swords"? Are resources important? As in will my people starve if I leave them unattended?

These represent occupation of the planet. Your civ's colors are shown in the key at the bottom of the post.

A few questions:

  • Within the game, are we restricted to the confines of our own star system, or will we be able to spread out? In other words, are we only developing our own system? (This may have been discussed already, but I'm still a bit befuddled.)
  • If we can move to other star systems, how will we know where to go? Is there some sort of local cluster/galactic map that will be introduced?
  • With respect to distance able to travel, how hard is the science in the game? Are we ignoring time dilation? Will this be like in Star Trek, where a ship can go on a five year journey and it'll have been five years on Earth, or will we be taking actual physics into account?

I really can't wait to see where this goes. Very excited for whatever's next.

@Fridge:

Most of those questions are answered in Turn 0, but I will reiterate if you are confused.

Names will be added to the key on Turn 1, as I kinda missed the window for that.

No, it's alright. I wasn't reading carefully enough. Thanks anyway.

EDIT: Just to clarify, we can travel to any system named in the turn? I could just say "Fleet: go to planet x" and they'll do that?

Also, have all of our home systems been thoroughly explored by our race? Is it already known by my people that, for instance, one of the planets in the Taiyo system has a large amount of uranium?

- You have no fleets.
- You can't leave your system without fleets.

- You can't recognize a hypothetical question when you see one.

@Fridge: All information that is known to you, the player, is known by your civilization's people. So yes, you do have prospecting info on every planet in the game. If you wanted to move a fleet from one system to another you would say something like "Taiyo: Move three fleets from Sogen, Taiyo System to Earth, Sol System."

"EDIT: Just to clarify, we can travel to any system named in the turn? I could just say “Fleet: go to planet x” and they’ll do that?"

"the turn" can only refer to Turn 0. There isn't another turn "the" can refer to, nor did you propose a hypothetical one for which "the" could refer to.

Thanks, good to know.

@Cale: I'm not arguing semantics with you, it's 2:20 AM where I am, I want to go to sleep.

@Taryn: Piss off.

"Tech: Laser Swords" is how you would word it. Food is too minor of a detail. Just make sure the planet is habitable or has access to a habitable planet's trade before you throw people at it.

So do we have to put our ships has the very first tech we make in this game? I know that might sound like a dumb question but I still want to make sure so I don't do a stupid mistake on my first turn.

No, your civilization already has the technology to build a fleet of ships.

Thank you for the clarification Syndic. I suppose with our fleets we can make different classes of ships.
