How Big? Are you implying… Too Big?

Or perhaps the Legendary Too Fucking Big?

Rayman?? If he's a trophy then he's not a playable char. But if there's a trophy of a third party game it means the protagonist is playable. But Rayman IS the protagonist of his own games. So if he's not a playable char WHO the heck is? And if there isn't anyone, why is he a trophy, since he's not a Nintendo character? I'm so confused.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!!

Three Characters:
-Lucina
-Robin
-Captain Falcon

And Chrom deconfirmed as he is apart of Robin's Final Smash, thus proving the Gematsu Leak once and for all WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!!

Well, it wasn't Shulk, but the leak is still correct! I think the Chrom/Lucina and M.Robin/F.Robin alternate costumes is a really good idea.

EDIT: Or is Chrom just part of the Final Smash? I'm not sure.

meanwhile on /v/

Anyways yeah, this is pretty good. I didn't like the idea of Chrom being playable over Lucina and Robin looks interesting to play as.

Characters confirmed via Whiteboard:
38. Meta Knight (Also note that the Halberd is a returning stage)
39. Wario (Also note that Waluigi and Ashley are both marked as Wario Characters)

Characters confirmed via Series Inclusion:
40. Ness or Lucas (Mr. Saturn and Franklin Badge items)
(Note: Any fighters above this number will go against Sakurai’s statement that there will be no more playable characters than there where previously TECHNICALLY)
41. Ice Climbers (Polar Bear in Smash Run)
42. A rep from Rhythm Heaven. Likely Marshal. (Series representation in Smash Run.)

Speculation and Low Priority Returning Characters:
43. A Xeno character, likely Shulk (Baseless Speculation besides Xenoblade’s popularity.)
44. The fully evolved form of a Grass Type Starter Pokémon (Speculation. It would complete the Pokémon Elemental Triangle. And because Pokémon Gen 3 is getting a Remake. Sceptile?)
45. Isaac from Golden Sun (This is a stretch as he was simply not shown off during the assist trophy demonstration.)
46. A villain from an already established series in the game. (King K Rool and or Hades. Note that Ridley has been confirmed as a Stage Boss, but keep in mind Sakurai’s tendency to play with expectations. Also note that Hades has the potential of being the Story Mode final boss if Sakurai gets cheeky. The only remaining villain who makes sense is the Black Knight from Fire Emblem.)
47. An updated Gannondorf (Recall how Sakurai stated that when updating Yoshi, he wanted to keep it under wraps as not to cause too much of a disturbance. This may be the same case.)
48. Lucas or Ness depending on which one isn’t added first (they are clones of one another)(NOTE: One may become an alternate skin of another!)
49. A Splatoon Rep?
50. Jigglypuff (Was low priority in Brawl)
51. Falco (Clone Character)(Note: it’s been suggested that Falco or Wolf take over Snake’s Moveset if Snake does not reappear.)(NOTE: May become a Skin of Starfox!)
52. Wolf (Was low priority in Brawl)(NOTE: May become a Skin of Starfox!)(NOTE, May Hold Priority Over Falco Due To Villain Status!)
53. ROB (Has yet to be mentioned at all)

Characters likely not returning:

  • Dr. Mario (Note that Dr. Mario did have code pertaining to him in Brawl, however was cut due to time constraints)
  • Young Link (Forever replaced by Toon Link)
  • Pichu (Note that Pulse and Minim where set to replace Pichu, however was cut due to time constraints)
  • Mewtwo (Note that Mewtwo did have code pertaining to him in Brawl, however was cut either due to Time Constraints or his similarity to Lucario)
  • Roy (Note that Roy did have code pertaining to him in Brawl, and could actually be added to the opening cutscene via a cheat device. He was likely cut due to time constraits)
  • Squirtle (Because Charizard was separated from the Pokemon Trainer, and Greninja took the spot of a Water Type Pokemon in the game, Squirtle will likely be demoted back to a Pokeball or cut all together)
  • Ivysaur (Because Charizard was separated from the Pokemon Trainer, Ivysaur is an odd one out amongst the Pokemon not being in his fully evolved form. If he returns, it will be as a Venasaur. However, the counter speculation that Septile might be in the game to accommodate a middle generation representation makes Ivysaur irrelevant.)
  • Solid Snake (Kojima had stated he was not aware of Solid Snake being back in the game, and invited Sakurai to add him in again despite not wanting to bring Ground Zeros/The Phantom Pain to the Wii U. However its likely too late to add snake back in and the previously mentioned not bringing Metal Gear to the Wii U makes Snake’s chances almost dead.)

So under Roy, you say he could be added to the Brawl opening. I've never heard of this outside of your list, where have you seen this?

I'm just operating off Memory here, but there was a video showing off the Opening Hack a long time ago (We are talking 6 or so years ago). The video has probably been buried for a veeeeeeeeeeery long time now and has likely been deleted at some point since I can't seem to find it again.

I see. I know it's possible to mod the opening sequence somewhat easily since all the characters are just flat images, and that Project M adds Mewtwo and Roy into there, but I've never heard of his opening portrait still being left on the disc so it could be that the modder just used him as an example character.

I posted this as a comment on an image in the SSB gallery. I figured it was worth sharing here.

"You ever hear of the term "Don't shoot the messenger"?

I have a theory: The person who leaked the information to Sal Romano had outdated information, which is what people have been saying the whole time. This explains "Pokemon from X/Y". What I'm getting at is this: Chrom may have initially been the decided playable character, but for reasons unknown(Maybe more diversity in the roster?), was changed to Lucina. This could also explain how Robin and Rosalina were not predicted, they may not have been fully decided when the leaker got his information. This might also mean that Lucina could have been in Robin's FS instead of Chrom."

Plus, take a look at the trailer, It seems like it was designed to deconfirm Chrom. Look at when Lucina's name popped up, the "?!" seems to denote shock or surprise. And when Chrom says "Maybe next time". While every other character just had an exclamation point. This might be some Class-A Sakurai trolling.

Sakurai also stated that "We're nearing the bottom of our stash or new character trailers" This implies that there are still more reveal trailers. AND that they are all completed. So, possibly in response to everyone expecting Shulk, thus no hype, Sakurai could have easily switched the trailers so people would be surprised.

In other words, Sal technically may not be wrong, just misinformed with some outdated information. And Sakurai trolling.

Again, this is just speculation.

Too bad Chrom's not in it, it makes me sad that my number 1 Video Game husbando is not playable. Robin and Lucina is cool too though. I think Miketroid may be right about the leak, but this news definitely killed some of my trust in it. Giving me false hope like that.

Oh, my faith is shaken as well.

Not certain why people are insistent on defending the legitimacy at this point. The leaker was wrong, and he is not actually an inside source.

Has he had some INSANE educated guesses? Yes, of course. He might still be right about the remaining two predictions. Buuuuuut… now things are up in the air again. And I am liking it.

A few things…
Sonic's final smash is still super sonic, along with Mario retaining the Mario Finale, Donkey Kong with Kongo Beat, Bowser with Giga Bowser, Zelda with Light Arrow, Toon link with Triforce Slash, and the Mii Gunner's final smash is called Triple Laser, I'm not sure if it will be different for the other mii types.
Jigglypuff will likely be in the game, considering she (he?) is a veteran fighter from the N64 days.
There's a chance Lucina will be an alt for Marth, seeing as Lucina and Marth share similar moves, while the difference is just the attack animation.

Oh, and here's a video of all the final smashes mentioned above…

Nintendo confirmed that Lucina is a separate character. I honestly thought that she would get in, but as a reskin for Marth. Oh well. Now all my hopes are riding on Choir Boys and Mr Game and Watch, the other two characters I want in.

The opening portrait was likely modded, but I do believe the character slots for both mewtwo and roy are still functional in brawl, so long as you add in the needed files (mostly fan-created) they can both be playable in their own slots (or another character can take their spot if you want them to). I know this mostly because I'm a pretty big Brawl-hacking nerd.

Can I ask a question to you guys? I'm not into the Smash competitive scene because I'm not the world's biggest Melee fan (sue me), but I get why fans weren't struck on Brawl, even if I loved it (Again, sue me). So with that said, and taking the pro reaction to the invitational, what do you think the chances are that the pro scene will start to embrace the new game?

It's impossible to say for sure until the game comes out and people can experiment with it. But I recall the ZeRo had an AMA on Reddit after he won, and he said he really liked the game. I don't know about what the greater community thinks, though.

I think that it will get the typical reactions from the melee fags, y'know… "The game is too floaty, air dodging isn't the same, this game takes no skill at all." I know this mostly because I have a lot of friends that play melee competitively and this is exactly what many of them think. And considering the amount of melee > brawl players in the competitive smash scene, it may end up being treated the same as brawl. But maybe not, because it seems like a lot of things were tweaked to make the game a faster paced version of brawl. Who knows? Melee fags will Meleefag, but I know for sure that I'll love it. (I'm a bit of a competitive smash player, and I like brawl more than melee.)

It needs to be played for a while before we can even discuss this. Impossible to say right now.

I was mainly asking this because I wanted to know what the people from the invitational think of it, and what people who played the demo think of it. I would've thought they would have had a rough idea at the least. I know that there's nothing solid right now.

I played it at the best buy demo, it was really really fun. It was like a faster paced brawl. Its gameplay actually felt more like a mix between Brawl and Melee with a bit of smash 64 mixed in.

I just had a crackpot theory that crossed my mind that I would like to share. Judging by how Pac-Man's reveal had Mr. game & Watch in the end and Lucina and Robin had Captain Falcon in a major role, I have come to a conclusion, using the gematsu leak, of when Ness and Wario might appear. If Shulk is to be unveiled, I would expect him maybe teaming up with or fighting Ness as both characters are from JRPGs that have a cult following. If Chorus Men are to be unveiled, then Wario would be a perfect fit for their introduction, due to being made by the same team as well as their art style. Even though the gematsu leak is highly questionable as well as strangely accurate (minus Chrom), it's just a theory. A game theory.

Lucina and Robin over Chrom is incredible, especially considering Lucina kinda comes off as a literal Marth clone. I'm super excited for this now, and I'm debating getting a Wii U.

EDIT: I didn't even look at the character pages, but Robin gets different tomes and weapons, including a freaking Levin Sword; I want this game now.

Get eet. I will continue to be the Wii U's unofficial spokesman until everyone owns one, it's totally worthwhile at this point.

And despite the fact that I'm upset about no Chrom, I'm super happy Fire Emblem is getting 4 reps, an idea I originally thought was impossible. I guess after how well Awakening sold, Nintendo are really starting to accept Fire Emblem as one of their major franchises, which is awesome. Still holding out for Choir Boys though, and if my rabid fanboy fantasies are accepted, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton and Rayman (although the former two have no chance and the latter has little chance).

I would to share with you all my idea for Lucina's color palettes. I'm hoping the colors would be based off her potential mothers and the green outfit is thrown in. It may not be likely since it didn't happen in Awakening but why not change her hair color to represent her mother?

Possible Lucina palettes,

Default – Blue outfit w/ blue hair
Robin – Black outfit w/ white hair
Sully – Red outfit w/ red hair
Sumia – Purple outfit w/ gray hair
Maribelle – Pink outfit w/ blonde hair
Olivia – White outfit w/ pink hair
Green – Green outfit w/ blue hair (No mother in green outfit. Represents her ally sprite)
