Over the following month, the joke spread across various subreddits. On July 9th, user Siemturbo posted an example captioned "When you fall down the stairs" in /r/memes^[2] (shown below, left). User Banapple101 posted an edit of the original image in /r/dankmemes^[3] on July 4th (shown below, right).

The format began trending again amid the rise of Stonks edits in late 2019 and early 2020.
