The photo was originally posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, in August 2023, quickly leading to the art meme trend which spread across social media. Other meme creators simply object labeled the two mannequins.

Origin

On August 25th, 2023, X^[1] user @officialwheyfu posted a photo of a mannequin display in a store, showing two female mannequins with varying busts placed side by side, labeled as the Adidas brand "medium support" sports bra. @officialwheyfu captioned the photo, "I sense the potential for an art meme here," gaining roughly 62,700 likes in five days (shown below).

The earliest discovered redraw and overall memetic usage of the image was posted by X^[2] user @kukuruyo at around 9 a.m. EST on August 25th, 2023, gaining roughly 2,500 likes in five days (shown below).

Spread

On August 25th, 2023, users on X started to object label the original photo. For instance, the first-known to do so was X^[3] user @papsphin, making a joke about Tinder matches, gaining over 50 likes in five days (shown below, left). Soon after, X^[4] user @dejiimole posted a version about VTubers, receiving roughly 2,300 likes in five days (shown below, right).

In the days that followed the original photo's upload, various artists on X posted iterations of the trend, often referencing characters from anime or video games. For instance, on August 26th, 2023, X^[5] user @xshrimpcake posted a version featuring Arknights characters Mint and Nearl, gaining roughly 5,600 likes in four days (shown below, left). Also on August 26th, X^[6] user @BONGF_ART posted one with Power and Makima from Chainsaw Man, gaining roughly 26,100 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Various iterations continued to surface on X^[7][8] in late August 2023, many of which featured original furry characters made by the artists.
