The "BMW Glass Cleaner" TikTok Search, also known as #glasscleaner or "BMW Glass Cleaner," refers to a series of explicit videos posted to TikTok in October 2024 using the hashtags #glasscleaner (glass cleaner) and #BMW (BMW), which somehow passed TikTok's censors. The videos didn't show the lewd content outright but rather showed vague outlines of the explicit content put through filters that when looked at closely became obvious. TikTokers noticed the videos in October 2024 and it quickly became a Don't Google trend on the app. Many also likened the situation to the TikTok Thirst Trap Search Results Phenomenon.

Origin

On October 24th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @0.luv.4k posted a video with a text caption, reading in all caps, "BRO WHY IS TIKTOK NOT DOING ANYTHING ABТ THIS?" In the video's description, the TikToker warned people not to look up "glasscleaner" on the app and further warned them not to search for it in public. The video received roughly 4.2 million plays and 246,300 likes in four days (shown below).

The TikToker was referring to the hashtag "#glasscleaner" on TikTok^[2] where videos had been posted showing explicit material that was hidden by filters. Because of the filters, the content had seemingly passed TikTok's moderation tools.

In the following days, more people on the app posted videos about "#glasscleaner" and well as "#BMW," which was commonly paired with the former. For instance, on October 26th, 2024, TikToker^[3] @angirebolloso posted a video mentioning both hashtags, receiving over 835,400 plays and 3,300 likes in two days (shown below).

On October 27th, TikToker^[4] @somethinglikethat893 posted a similar video on the topic, showing Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet turning around with his mouth agape, gaining over 1.9 million plays and 3,500 likes in a day (shown below).

Non-viral posts about the "Glass Cleaner" TikTok Search also surfaced on Twitter / X^[5] during the same timeframe.
