About

"Chakalitos" is a song that achieved virality on TikTok since it was released by the Mexican influencers Angi Fire and Tilin Insano in July 2023. The song became a viral sound on the platform, inspiring dance trends, memes and comedy skits.

Origin

On July 22nd, 2023, the Mexican influencer Angel Fire uploaded on her YouTube[1] channel the official music video for "CHAKALITOS." The lyrics of the song are based on a friendship between the two children who had grown apart. In Costa Rica and Venezuela, the word "chalakito" in Spanish refers to a cunning person. However, in this case, the term is used as a nickname between two friends.

Spread

The song became prevalent on TikTok, with the official sound[2] accumulating over 1.2 million videos uploaded on the platform and many other variations receiving decent engagement. Most of the content is focused on a dance trend that went viral after TikTok[3] user @hugoleguiza6 posted a video on August 29th doing the "chalakito" dance. The post (shown below, left) amassed over 55 million plays and 4.8 million likes in two months. On September 26th, TikTok[4] influencer @domelipa posted a video (shown below. right) doing the dance trend, which garnered roughly 14 million plays and 1.6 million likes in a week.
