The black-and-white images used in the meme that depict a Black woman or man crying are either taken from stock photos or AI-generated. For example, a notable image used in the meme was originally uploaded to Shutterstock on January 3rd, 2010.^[1]

Memes about people humorously or purposefully "losing" a challenge in which they have to name three of something against various threats began on TikTok. Precursors to the "Dih to yo crack" memes were jokes like the one posted by TikToker^[3] @jaysamasonn on December 28th, 2024, showing a worried-looking white man next to text that read, "Just Swiss cheese me bra."

TikToker^[2] @savnote posted another such meme on January 1st, 2025, showing a Black man crying alongside a text overlay that read, "Either slime out yo hb or listen to radwave and hunxho for 24 hours 💔."

On January 8th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @rise_moots posted one of the earliest videos in the "Dih to yo crack" trend, posting an image set to the "No More Parties" remix by Reese Youngns and gathering 720,000 plays and 100,000 likes in five days.

More TikTokers posted videos participating in the trend on January 9th, 2025, including TikToker^[5] @kinbaru, who wrote, "Dih to yo crack name ONE marvel rivals character / Just slide that shi in gang 😭🙏🏽💔💔" The post gathered over 150,000 plays and 20,000 likes in four days.

On January 11th, 2025, the Instagram^[6] page @dihtoyocrackdaily posted a video showing an AI-generated image of a Black man with his eyes closed. The text overlay on the image read, "gun to yo head," "yo mama life at stake" and "fate of the universe is on the line." The man is then shown to spin around, eyes now open and alert alongside the line "dih to yo crack," seemingly implying that the threat of a "dick to your crack" is scarier than its alternatives. The post gathered over 6,000 likes in two days.

Also on January 11th, Twitter / X^[7] user @uta_12 posted the stock image of a Black woman crying alongside text that read, "Big ahh dih to you crack, name 3 new gens better than chainsaw man" Just slide that shi in dawg💔💔💔." The post gathered over 6,000 likes in two days.

On January 12th, 2025, Redditor^[8] /u/Ieatglue70 posted a version of the meme to the subreddit /r/travisscott, gathering over 200 upvotes in a day.
