Overview
2020 FurCon Domestic Abuse Incident refers to an altercation that took place outside the FurCon convention in San Jose, California in January 2020 in which several attendees helped to restrain a man who had been assaulting his girlfriend outside the event.
Background
On January 17th, 2020, According to CNN[1] 22-year-old Demetri Hardnett was arrested for domestic violence after assaulting his girlfriend in their car. CNN interview witness Robbie Ryans who said, "We heard a woman's screams coming from inside and saw the passenger throwing full fists at whoever was driving. We got up and ran towards the car, my friend pulled open the door and we both held onto the attacker. The girl driver was yelling for him to get out, as he started trying to fight us off." The next day, Ryans took to Twitter and shared his video of the incident (shown below). The video gained over 4,300 likes in five days.

On January 18th, 2020, Twitter user and bystander @timburrs[2], tweeted "context: guy was hitting a woman in her car as she yelled for help. i opened the car door to pull him out. he started punching me as she tried to drive away but he held onto the car. other furries then dragged him off of the car. glad he didnt have a weapon. glad everyone is safe" (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 115,300 likes in five days. On January 21st, Redditor WokeGnome reposted the CNN story to r/news[4] and received over 6,200 points (93% Upvoted) in two days. The next day, Twitter user @HugoThePinkCat[3] shared a screenshot of some negative commentary involving furries following the news story with the caption, "'Why I've stopped waiting for the mainstream's approval of furries' exhibit #522 You can LITERALLY save a woman from being possibly murdered by her boyfriend and people will still treat you like utter shit" (shown below, right).
