Overview

Nickelodeon's Super Bowl LVIII Broadcast refers to the first kid-friendly alternate Super Bowl broadcast, aired on Nickelodeon on February 11th, 2024. The broadcast, titled "Super Bowl LVIII Live from Bikini Bottom," gathered a series of memorable characters from Nickelodeon (especially from the SpongeBob SquarePants series) as the presenters of the event, which inspired viral clips, memes and reactions on TikTok, Twitter / X and other platforms.

Background

On February 11th, 2024, Nickelodeon and CBS Sports channels teamed up with the NFL for the first-ever Super Bowl alternate telecast for kids. According to The Guardian,[1] the "Super Bowl LVIII Live from Bikini Bottom," was presented by sports commentators Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson, as well as Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke, who voice SpongeBob SquarePants and his starfish sidekick, Patrick Star, respectively, in the cartoon (shown below).

Online Reactions

On February 12th, 2024, the NFL uploaded a video[2] with the best moments of Nickelodeon's Super Bowl broadcast (shown below, left), which amassed more than 166,000 views and 6,100 likes in a few hours. On February 11th, Nickelodeon uploaded a video of SpongeBob SquarePants singing "Sweet Victory" during the Super Bowl LVIII on YouTube[3] (shown below, right), which garnered over 514,000 views and 21,000 likes in a day.



The broadcast also went viral on X, with numerous users posting reactions or commenting on it. For instance, on February 11th, 2024, X[4] user @big_business_ shared a clip of fake fish celebrities inspired by LeBron James, Vin Diesel and Billie Eilish. The tweet (shown below) received more than 10 million views and 180,000 likes in a day.
