About

The Flip the Camera Trend or Flipping the Camera Trend, also known as the Flip the Camera Challenge, is a TikTok trend and internet challenge in which a TikToker asks someone to film them doing a dance, hands the person their phone with the screen facing outward, as if they want to be recorded with the selfie or front cam, then approaches the phone and flips the camera, changing it to record the person holding the phone without their knowledge. The trend inspired backlash from some, who saw it as a form of bullying, suggesting that the trend is only performed to make fun of the person being unknowingly filmed for being ugly. The trend, often set to the rap song "Mari Glock" by Lil Noonie and Lil Sy, was started as early as October 2025 and became increasingly popularized throughout November of that year.

Origin

It is unconfirmed who exactly started the Flip the Camera trend. One of the earliest known, viral examples was posted by TikToker[1] @jaycrudddy on October 29th, 2025, garnering over 1.5 million views in two weeks.

In the video, a group of men perform a dance. The man closest to the camera then steps forward and taps the phone screen, flipping the camera to the person filming. It has been suggested that the man does not know that the camera was changed to film them. The video is set to "Mari Glock" by rappers Lil Noonie and Lil Sy.

On November 9th, 2025, TikToker[4] @talkden69 posted a video in which he criticizes the trend as a form of bullying, sharing the opinion that it's one of the worst trends to ever appear on the app, explaining that the people dancing are always "rowdy" looking and the recorder always looks "sweet, nice innocent and quiet," suggesting they're probably far more introverted than the dancers, garnering over 1.5 million views in a day.
