About
Footprint Pattern Recognition refers to an image meme template pairing pop culture characters with illustrations of their "footprints," first as a way to demonstrate how the characters would have sex and later to reference to a notable scene that the character appeared in or their unique way of standing and moving.
Origin
On April 12th, 2023, Facebook[6] user Vladimir uploaded the earliest known example of the meme, imagining someone having sex with various characters from game Blue Archive to "Blue Archive Indonesia" group. The post received more than 2,100 reactions and 491 shares in four days (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook[1] page "Gomen Yui Posting" uploaded a similar image using characters from the game Princess Connect! Re: Dive. The post received 344 reactions and 152 shares in four days (shown below, right).
Spread
The format grew popular on Facebook over the follwing days. On April 13th, 2023, Facebook[2] user 熊猫肚肚 uploaded an image depicting someone having sex with a character from Blue Archive to "Blue Archive Arona’s Hideout" group. The post received more than 1,600 reactions and 277 shares in four days (shown below, left). From there, the meme moved away from sex and towards more humorous variations. Also on the 13th, Facebook[3] user Segar Wakatsu uploaded an image of someone who slipped on a wet floor. The image received 551 reactions and 713 shares in four days (shown below, right).
The same day, Facebook[6] user Unkl Mitball uploaded a video of the footprints referencing the film Kung Fu Hustle. The video received more than 1,800 reactions and 1,900 shares (shown below).
On April 14th, 2023, Facebook[4] user Kaza Zaky uploaded an image referencing Squidward Tentacles from SpongeBob SquarePants getting trampled by people. The image received 959 reactions and more than 1,200 shares in three days (shown below, left). The same day, Facebook[5] user Aldi Wicaksono uploaded an image of footprints referencing the meme Atan Menjadi Setan. The image received more than 2,300 shares in three days (shown below, right).
