I Kneel / Kneeling Vegeta refers to an exploitable image that shows Vegeta, from the Dragon Ball series, humbly kneeling. It is usually accompanied by the phrase "I kneel" after adding the Japanese suffix "sama" to the person or user it is sent to. Several users created various redraws of Vegeta kneeling depicting a range of pop culture references mimicking the original.

Origin

The image of Vegeta kneeling, which later became the base for the meme, comes from season two, episode 16 of the Dragon Ball Super anime, called "Vegeta Becomes a Student?!" In the scene, Vegeta asks Whis to train him after learning that he is Beerus' teacher, kneeling before him, creating the exact image depicted in the meme and subsequent redraws (seen below).

For the meme, this style of posting originated on the 4chan board /a/ and gained popularity on the Dragon Ball Super-related threads /dbs/. One of its earliest examples can be traced to July 11th, 2019, when an anonymous 4chan^[1] user posted a panel from the Dragon Ball Super manga showing Jiren on his knees, captioned with a greentext "G-goku sama is here? I KNEEL" (shown below, left). A similar post, this time showing Vegeta kneeling instead, was posted on September 17th, 2019, captioned "C-CHADSAMA?!?! I KNEEL!!" (shown below right).^[2]

On October 28th, 2020, another example was posted to the /sp/^[3] board by an anonymous user that depicted professional soccer player Lionel Messi with the caption "MESSI SAMA I KNEEL" (seen below, left). On October 30th, another anon posted a redraw featuring Shaggy with the caption "THOSE NUMBERS, TOM-SAMA, I KNEEL!!!" (seen below, right).^[4]

On November 12th, following the 2020 election, a version of Joe Biden was posted to the /pol/^[5] board with the caption "I kneel Trump-sama, please forgive us…" (shown below, left). On November 19th, a crossover variant was posted to the /a/^[6] board featuring Vegeta kneeling before Madara Uchiha from Naruto alongside the caption "I KNEEL GODARA-SAMA! Please kiss my wife…" (shown below, right).
